Tom McCurdy completed his 18th season as the head women's golf coach at Wichita State University in 2024-25, where he has completely changed the outlook of the program and brought it to new heights. Through the quality of McCurdy's recruiting classes, the Shockers are building a program that continues to compete on a national level.
Coach McCurdy has brought the women's golf program to a new level in his near two decades leading the charge. The Shockers have won three conference titles under McCurdy's leadership and his teams have recorded 27 top-5 team finishes at tournaments since 2015. McCurdy has instructed Wichita State golfer's to both individual and team success, helping Taryn Torgerson collect the 2018 American Athletic Conference Individual title. Under McCurdy's guidance, Kate Tilma earned AAC All-Conference honors in 2025.
McCurdy's now 25+ year collegiate coaching career began at his alma mater, Eastern Washington University, where he was an assistant from 1997-98. During that season, the Eagles had their most successful season in program history. He graduated from EWU in 1994 with a bachelor of arts degree in education.
ASSISTANT COACH ALEJANDRA "ALE" HEINEN
Alejandra "Ale" Heinen completed her ninth season in 2024-25 as the assistant coach for the Wichita State women's golf team.
Coach Heinen (Arellano) is a former Shocker golfer, playing at Wichita State from 2013-15. She finished her career as the Shocker career stroke leader with a 77.175 average and as the career 54-hole average leader with a 232.529 average.
Heinen is a native of Orizaba, Mexico. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in international business from Wichita State in 2016 and finished her Master's degree in sport management at WSU in 2018.
The Greater Wichita metro area is home to a mix of 13 different golf courses and country clubs, all within a 30 minute drive of the Wichita State University main campus. The Wichita State men's and women's golf teams take full advantage of this, regularly practicing on many of these nearby courses.
Under Armour is the official provider of all Shocker athletic gear.
The city of Wichita is a very open area and is easily navigable thanks to three major highways passing through the city. Wichita State University, which is located on the eastern side of Wichita, is just a short drive away from Wichita's historic "Oldetown" in downtown, while also being a very short drive from Wichita's beautiful, bustling east side, which features many excellent restaurants and fun activities such as Dave and Buster's and Topgolf. The east side of Wichita is also home to great shopping centers such as Bradley Fair, Greenwich Place, and Towne East Mall.
